Imsimbi Training proudly presents Basic End User Computing – a foundational skills programme delivered over 6 days (including FISA), designed to equip learners with the knowledge and practical skills required to confidently and safely use computing devices and common workplace software applications.
This course is aligned to Skills Programme SP-240201 at NQF Level 3, worth 30 credits. Imsimbi Training is a fully accredited training provider with QCTO as well as a Level 1 Contributor BBBEE company.
As technology continues to advance, basic computer skills have become an essential requirement in almost every workplace. Employees who are proficient in basic end user computing skills are able to complete tasks more efficiently and accurately, resulting in improved productivity, effective communication, and enhanced organisational performance.
Beyond the workplace, digital literacy enables individuals to perform everyday tasks more effectively, including improved ability to access information, communicate online, and complete administrative activities. These foundational skills also provide a platform for developing more effective technological competencies, creating opportunities for career progression, lifelong learning, and personal growth.
Learners will develop competence in word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, internet and email applications, enabling them to create, manage, and communicate information effectively. The programme also promotes the responsible and secure use of technology, preparing learners to apply these skills productively in both the workplace and their personal lives.

COURSE OUTCOMES
After completing this course, the learner will be able to:
- Safely switch on and off computer devices.
- Access files in a word processor, spreadsheet, or presentation application.
- Use the internet, including searching for information, using email, and accessing various websites and online resources.
- Create basic word processing documents.
- Create basic spreadsheets, input data, and use the spreadsheet to do basic reporting.
- Create basic presentations using a presentation application.
Programme Modules
The skills programme consists of Knowledge Modules and Practical Skill Modules, totalling 30 credits over 6 days (including FISA).
KM-01-KT01: Fundamentals of Working with Computing Devices
- Definition and description of different computing devices, specifically contextualised within organisations.
- Explain the fundamental computing flow.
- Describe the features of common computing devices.
- Explain types of general-purpose computing devices.
- Explore devices and methods to facilitate human interface with computing devices.
KM-01-KT02: Overview the Concepts and Principles of Operating Devices
- Explain what a computer operating system is.
- Discuss the essential knowledge and skills an end user requires to effectively use an operating system.
- Name the different operating systems.
- Explain the generic features of an operating system.
- Debate the concept of information capital.
KM-02-KT01: Introduction to Word Processing Applications
- Understanding what word processing is.
- Discuss the fundamentals of good business writing.
- List the types of business documents.
- Create, save and edit a Word document.
- Format texts, paragraphs, and pages using a word processing application.
- Proof, edit and print.
- Copy and paste.
- Navigate help functions effectively.
KM-02-KT02: Introduction to Spreadsheet Applications
- Explain what a spreadsheet is and how to best use it in our daily lives.
- Open and create a spreadsheet.
- Work with existing data in a spreadsheet.
- Save and format a spreadsheet.
- Work with multiple spreadsheets.
- Edit columns and rows.
- Use page navigation and print a spreadsheet.
- Copy and paste spreadsheets.
- Use the help functions.
- Explain what is meant by structure and components of a spreadsheet.
- Solve problems using basic statistical and mathematical principles.
- Explain and discuss how to use fundamental features and functions of a spreadsheet software application.
KM-02-KT03: Introduction to Presentation Applications
- Explain what good presentations are and how they are used in your organisation.
- Discuss key rules and principles for building a presentation slide.
- Different types of presentations are explained.
- Overview the basic functions and features of a presentation.
- Choose slide layouts.
- Add and format the text of a presentation.
- Use paragraph settings, graphics, modify images, and use transition and animation.
- Move and delete slides.
- Use views, notes, and spell check in a presentation application.
- Use printing in a presentation application.
KM-02-KT04: Introduction to Digital Communication
- Explain the basics of digital communication.
- Discuss the different types of digital communication.
- Define the rules and guidelines to follow when effectively communicating between devices.
- Develop an understanding of network architecture.
- Reflect on security and privacy measures to protect sensitive information.
- Unpack new emerging technologies.
